Penang Day 2: Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Centre

After breakfast, I was strolling along MacAlister Road and hit upon the Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Centre.    I intended to visit this place the following day but since I was already at the door, I decided to go in.

This was the place where Dr Sun stayed where he first visited Penang in 1905.     The text in the photo explained in detail.  All in, Dr Sun visited Penang 5 times.

The museum was privately run.  The person in charge was daughter of the benefactor of the mansion and she showed me round the exhibits.  There were many visitors that day.  Maybe this part of history was not interested to causal visitors.

The exhibitions were organized chronologically, and provided a good introduction to Dr Sun’s revolutionary efforts through the years.

There are many well made clay figures depicting the historical events at that time.  Even if you are not interested in history, you could appreciate the artistry.

The Dr Sun Yat Sen Memorial Centre is an informative place to learn about modern Chinese history.  I will recommend visitors to Penang to visit it.  An added incentive is the good restaurant Spring Chamber @ The Sun, located in the same building.
